Learning landscapes: Translating educational needs into design principles
Young children, in particular preschoolers, need a sense of their own space, a place where they feel safe and at home.
Elemental Preschool's central playroom is designed to address this crucial need for young children, especially preschoolers. Instead of addressing this need through the walls of traditional classrooms, the playroom offers a dynamic environment with distinct "neighborhoods" where children can freely explore, socialize, and play. Drawing inspiration from the iconic golden hills of Northern California, a landscape familiar to the community, the design provides a welcoming and engaging space that caters to diverse learning needs.
